Do white people read books about period (pre/post WWII) interracial romance?

I've noticed, some of the white people at my school don't like reading books about overcoming racism because they say they can't relate or its in the past and not relevant today. I'm curious, do many caucasians feel like this because I was in the middle of writing a novel which deals with some IR relationshps.

I would read it if the story was interesting, detailed and well-written. However I've never seen maybe books with that storyline around. The only occurence I can remember was a secondary storyline in a Suzanne Brockmann novel (I believe it was Gone too Far). I believe it really added to the story, which also dealt with contemporary interracial relationships.
