How do i teach my 9 year old?
i need help with this.
my sister lives in the cayman islands and their school system is EXTREMELY slow. she is currently 9 years old and will be in year 5 in september.
i cant allow her to stay in this slow system so i will be taking her to jamaica in about 2 years so that she can pick up from there. even though that will be hard.
can i get some tips on home schooling a 9 year old! i get sort of frustrated sometimes...
can i get some sites to help me out with her math and language phonics science spelling etc.
she is entering the national spelling bee in cayman in OCt. help please!
i mean she is in year 4 and she hasnt even dun stage 2 multiplication or long division!! or cursive writing! in jamaica that is dun in years 2 - 4. if she approaches long division in year 5 when will she start FRACTIONS and RATIO and Probability!? its just freaks me out. the worst thing is the kid is extremely smart and her brain is like bored with the easy work.. she is notbeing challenged!!
My daughter is ten and I will be homeschooling her for the first time this year. I used the Accelerated Christian Education paces. I think it is a great learning system because you don't have to go through text books coming up with lesson plans. It, too me, is a time saver. My daughter is a great reader so this program works for her. She works in workbooks and there are five subjects: vocabulary, math, english, science, and social studies. When you do 12 workbooks you have completed a years worth of work. You can work at your own pace which is great. I know kids who are two years ahead because they move through the books so quickly. At the end of each book you take a practice test and then the actual test. You are self taught. You follow the instructions and then do the work. I am here for my daughter if she needs me to explain something to her. I was the same way. I am from the states and I just felt that she was behind in the public school system. She does great with this system. She finished the year with a 95 average. I am also going to incorporate other subjects like literature, health, gym, art, and music. In addition to the paces this year she also did a literature pace. I hope that I was helpful. I just think that this is a great system for getting her caught up. You can get the paces online. Just put in A.C.E. Paces and it will take you to the websites that sell them. Each pace is $3 and then you have to order the answer keys. The paces have made her a very independent learner. She was in private school doing the paces and the tuition was $4,000. To order all the paces was only a few hundred dollars for the year. I figured that I could teach her at home and save money. Also, private school was very strict and my daughter didn't need that. She is more of a free spirit. The Cayman Islands and Jamaica are both so beautiful. I have visited both of them and really enjoyed my stay. Good luck with your niece.
