Why is the light from my laser pointer dotty?
I recently go hold of a class 3 laser pointer from china and I noticed that the light emitted from the area is spotty, a bit like noise on a TV. Why? Also, how powerful is a class 3 laser supposed to be? Will it burn anything?
It is dotty because the light scattered by dust interferes with the direct light and cancels it out in places making dark spots.
I don't know about the power but I doubt that a laser pointer would burn anything since it is only powered by small batteries. As with any laser, it might hurt an eye of someone who looked directly into it, so you should not be pointing it at anyone.
