I need help with adding 2 functions in my flash calculator, raising x to the y power and finding the square root of x with actionscripting! I am not doing complicated coding just that in my frame i add :

set(x,'')
set(y,'')
set(total,'')

which means x and y are my two variables and total is the amount that comes from x and y when they are raised to the power, and in the sqare root case, it would be total = square root of x. like in the subtraction button i coded it like this:

on(press){ total=x-y }

so how do i integrate this to squaring integers and finding the square root of a number? Please dont say go to flashkit cause they have too much complicated coding and the official flash website doesn't help too much. all i know is that to raise x to the y power i use the function pow and for square root i use
sqrt....

so please can u tell me how to do it in this format?

What is the American equivalent of GCSE Maths?

I am applying for a university in England and the undergraduate requirement was GCSE Maths at B or higher. I'm a 10th grade student in US, and I can't find any chart or organized information on educational system comparison. If anyone knows what GCSE Maths might be in US- say, AP Calculus AB or SAT Subject test Maths- I would be unbelievably grateful. Thank you so much, whoever takes time to answer my question. I'm from England so I can't give you a definite answer, but I would think it would be whichever final exams you take in high school in the US, given those are the circumstances of GCSEs in England.
I think the best thing would be to contact the university in question and ask them what they're looking for. :)

Hi, i want to add points to my childs grade. I have AOP Switched on Schoolhouse, CD cirriculum for my chid, from alpha omega, how do i add points to his grade, i have a good reason, he has been helping homeless people and i want to give him an a in the subject, he deserves it any, if you help, please do.

AOP will keep the grades (I believe) for the work he does through their curriculum, but as his parent, his final grade is up to you. You can even give him a "community service" grade (some schools require it for advancement to the next grade) and add the points that way.

How do you go about getting a book published?

I would like to write a book some time. It would be about my life. I have a lot of interesting things to write. I also have a lot of things I want to share that I'm sure other people in this world would feel the same about or would feel as though they may share some things in common with me. However, I have had several terrible things happen in my life that has made me a stronger person. I just want to know how to go about writing a book, finding someone to go over it, and see if it can be published. Does anyone know all the steps it takes to getting a book published? If anyone does, let me know. That would be helpful for near future reference. Thanks!

Here's the rundown on writing. Make sure that your family and friends are not just paying you lip service when they say your writing is great and you have a talent. From what I see in your ideas, you have a pretty good grasp on the English language, spelling and grammar.

First you have to have a plot. Nevermind the characters for now. The plot and the point of view POV are two of the most important parts of a novel, or short story.

Once you have that down, then you'll think about who and what your characters are. You’ll need a protagonist and an antagonist. Do you know what those mean? Will one be a female? Will one be a male? Maybe they’ll both be either female or male.

What you’ll need to do is get your hands on a book about writing a novel. Go to your bookstore or library and look one up. I have over $300.00 dollars invested in books that are helpful to a writer. You will also need to have a firm grasp on the English language in spelling and grammar.

Once you write your book, you’ll want to make sure that it’s edited properly. NEVER let a family member read your work unless they can give you an honest opinion. Lip service does neither you nor your writing any good. You’ll need an honest opinion.

You’ll need a copy of Writer’s Market. In there you will find literary agents, both their snail mail and email addresses. You will have to write a query letter and give the agent a synopsis of the story. Know this: Any mistakes in grammar or spelling will be an automatic reject. This also goes for your manuscript.

The books you buy from a bookstore or borrow from a library regarding how to write should also include how to format your manuscript and a sample of a query letter.

In your case you want to write non-fiction. It's basically the same routine, but you'll have to talk with people who will be covered in your book and make sure they are aware of your intentions. Your best bet would be to go to your favorite bookstore and purchase a book on writing both fiction and non-fiction. The library probably has one or two, but you can't use a highlight marker on their books. You'll want to highlight points of interest to research later on, especially any of the legalities.

There’s a lot more to it than just sitting down and writing a story.

I have had a Cable replaced on my pushmower and it is for the pullback handle and the wire is too long?

How do I cut it to make it work without the metal nibs at the end that hooks to the Engine and to the Pullback bar or should I buy another one

You got the wrong cable. you can't cut it beacuse of the forged ends. So get the serial and model number off the mower and they should be able to get you the right cable.

How to train my toy poodle to stay in the basket while i cycle?

I got a 4 months old puppy.
I cycle a lot and would like to bring my toy poodle with me.
But she doesn't stay in the basket, she wants to jump out always.
I understand she's afraid, so I tried giving her treats while she's inside but she's still scared and always want to jump out.
Any advice on how to keep her in the basket without trying to jump out?
The basket is big enough for her to lie down, sit and turn around.

Just go with the basics. It worked for me and my dog and find it pretty useful.

How can I get my son to poop in the potty?

He will go peepee in the potty almost everytime but he won't poop. He will poop on the floor, in his underwear, ect.... We have tried sticker charts, rewards, toys, candy, popcicles, going to the park or McDonals to play, going to a friend's house, taking away his TV and movies, everything I can think of. He is 3 years old and some time I think he still wants me to changes his pants because I do his 8 month old little brother, I just don't know what to do, CAN ANYONE HELP ME?????
We have been trying for a year now and we are starting to get frusrtated because he refuses to go poop in the potty.

I just potty trained my son and daughter. At times I felt like I would do nothing but watch the timer and jump through hoops to get them to go. What worked for me was giving the kids the ability to use the toilet on their own. I used The Potty Stool http://www.thepottystool.com It is a stool that fits around your toilet and is completely safe and sturdy. The kids were very excited to use what mommy and daddy use and they were very comfortable climbing to the toilet.

I put toilet paper down over the water so that my kids did not become concerned with a splash when they pooped. This preventative measure really helped me. Hope this helps you.

Summer fun? HELP - EASY TEN POINTS?

Everyone at my school are gearing down for the summer with the most boring DVD's known to man, (the only enjoyable DVD being the ones listened to in Espanol - Harry Potter/Simpsons). Apart from History, Music,Geography and Science and Art the only real lessons where we are still learning, I am bored out of my mind. Here's what we do in each lesson:

English - Wordsearches and movies on a VHS machine which has sound quality like a 50's cassete recorder....
Maths- Poster making and free lessons...
DT - not doing much

As we have Science and Geography tests next week I think this is the reason for working. With only one daily lesson in which we are will definitly be learning - Science- I am starting to get bored. I am top of my class in most lessons and actually enjoy lessons - unlike half the kids in my class.
I am bored out of my mind in lessons -and the 3 weeks of summer before I go on Holiday or get my kitten may be boring.I need educational summer activity ideas please!
